Omar Khayyam was a distinguished Persian scholar and poet of the 11th and 12th centuries, remembered for creating the most accurate solar calendar and authoring fundamental works on algebra. Despite his scientific achievements in astronomy and mathematics, he gained worldwide fame for his rubaiyat—profound philosophical quatrains in which he extolled the joy of life, criticized hypocrisy, and pondered the mystery of existence. His unique personality paradoxically combined the rigor of scientific method with freethinking and subtle lyricism, making him one of the most widely quoted sages in the world.
